Ce rapport présente les différents bassins versants impactant la zone côtière bas-normande ainsi que les méthodes de reconstruction de leurs débits aux exutoires marins. Les données sources proviennent de mesures fournies par la banque Hydro (http://www.hydro.eaufrance.fr/). Les différentes méthodes de reconstruction du signal de débit ont été définies avec l’expertise d’Hubert Caplet de la DREAL Basse-Normandie.

Eutrophication of the Seine river/estuary/bay continuum of the French coast of the English Channel is a subject of growing concern. Because of huge nutrient inputs from the Seine river, with an excess of nitrogen over phosphorus and silica, chlorophyll concentrations reach very high level and episodic blooms of toxic dinoflagellates are regularly observed. Eutrophication of the Seine estuary and the Bay of the Seine is a crucial environmental issue for the management of ecosystems and economic activities related to fisheries and tourism. A large quantity of nutrients, especially nitrogen, is brought to the coastal zone by the Seine River, the main input of that area, but also by smaller rivers along the Normandy coast. This large delivery of nitrogen leads to an imbalance between nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and silica (Si), which affects the growth of planktonic organisms and can exacerbate the occurrence of harmful algal blooms (HABs). Sea-level rise impacts on the tides of the European Shelf ArchiMer

Sea-level rise (SLR) can modify not only total water levels, but also tidal dynamics. Several studies have investigated the effects of SLR on the tides of the western European continental shelf (mainly the M2 component). We further investigate this issue using a modelling-based approach, considering uniform SLR scenarios from −0.25 m to +10 m above present-day sea level. Assuming that coastal defenses are constructed along present-day shorelines, the patterns of change in high tide levels (annual maximum water level) are spatially similar, regardless of the magnitude of sea-level rise (i.e., the sign of the change remains the same, regardless of the SLR scenario) over most of the area (70%). The CORA dataset: validation and diagnostics of in-situ ocean temperature and salinity measurements ArchiMer

The French program Coriolis, as part of the French operational oceanographic system, produces the COriolis dataset for Re-Analysis (CORA) on a yearly basis. This dataset contains in-situ temperature and salinity profiles from different data types. The latest release CORA3 covers the period 1990 to 2010. Several tests have been developed to ensure a homogeneous quality control of the dataset and to meet the requirements of the physical ocean reanalysis activities (assimilation and validation). Improved tests include some simple tests based on comparison with climatology and a model background check based on a global ocean reanalysis.
